2016 Goal Check In: October Results

October has been, without a doubt, one of the hardest months of my life, and one I have still not recovered from.  Most of my goals and plans were completely derailed, with just a few exceptions for busy work and mindless stuff that have helped me get through these last few weeks, and some prodding by my sweetie and my best buds to keep me from just being a useless mess.

I’ve also cancelled and postponed a bunch of stuff that I am finally admitting just won’t be happening this year, if ever.

Financials

  1. Pay off the $5,000 personal loan I took out to replace the flat roof
  2. Get mortgage balance below $85,000CANCELLED, not happening – at just over $89k; must have miscalculated how much I could pay this year :-/
  3. Pay off Discover Card, in full – mild retail therapy plus cost of tarping the roof took it back over $1,300, so may not get this done till January, but we’ll see, it will be close; this month’s payments will bring it back down under $700 at least

Fitness and Health

  1. Reach target weight of 145 lbs. (weight on January 1st: 165.6) – Current Weight: 166.8
  2. Do some form of physical activity, be it go to the rec, walk, or bike campus, at least twice a week
  3. Work up to consistently walking up the stairs at work, where feasible (if carrying groceries, etc. can still take elevator)CANCELLED
  4. Bike ride at least once a week, weather/life permittingCANCELLED, again, just not happening at this point

Around the House

  1. Update/replace locks on front and back door – CANCELLED, maybe in 2017
  2. Replace or repair ripped up screen door – CANCELLED, maybe in 2017
  3. Replace faucets in bathroom and add shut off valves (stretch: replace the sink with a decent, relatively inexpensive vanity) – CANCELLED, maybe I can get the second part (the shut off valves) done in 2017
  4. Paint bedroom – in progress!
  5. Repair holes in fascia board and soffits  – CANCELLED, will replace with the roof, most likely in 2017
  6. Clean up/out home office closet (smaller one)
  7. Clean up/out built-ins in cat’s room
  8. Get the final drawer back in the actual kitchen cabinet
  9. Weed front gardens and try to add new plants as finances permit
  10. Get another display cabinet for figurines and what not – CANCELLED, maybe in 2017
  11. Repair or replace garage door opener – CANCELLED, maybe in 2017

Hobbies

  1. Complete at least one “project,” started or not, that’s sitting around the house (e.g. puzzle, design own painted pony, horse rug, model car kit, etc.)
  2. Play through at least 3 console games (Tales of Graces F won’t count for this purpose since it was primarily paid in 2015) – 2 DONE! Gave up on Genji: Days of the Blade; started and finished Tales of Xillia (PS3) and started Tales of Xillia 2
  3. Finish at least one PC game of: Age of Empires II (by completing all campaigns), Age of Empires III (ditto), Baldur’s Gate, Balder’s Gate II, or Dragon Age: OriginsCANCELLED, just not getting into any of them right now
  4. Watch at least 40 DVDs from collection – CANCELLED Clearly not happening unless I go on a serious binge
  5. Cull DVD collectionCANCELLED, clearly not happening and keep getting “stuck” on what to do with them
  6. Recode An Eclectic World to PHP with proper admin – actually making some progress
  7. Finish ICEE Guide – got pics for two more places, but need to do more price and location confirmations before posting
  8. Get all Italy pictures processed and posted

Everything Else

  1. When hit target weight, give self a $200 budget to go clothes shopping and get rid of any remaining “fat” clothesPOSTPONED, seems unlikely I’ll hit the weight this year considering most of the year I’ve been stuck
  2. Again look at, and hopefully take, Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 5.6 Developer Certification exam – POSTPONED; will aim for next year, as not in right place mentally to deal with this now
  3. Look at and potentially take Zend PHP 5.5 Certification exam – POSTPONED; will aim for next year, as not in right place mentally to deal with this now
